A unique journey through nature, history and archaeology
An experience that blends the beauty of the Tiber River, the millennia-old history of Rome and the timeless charm of Ostia Antica: the boat cruise from Ponte Marconi combined with a guided tour of the archaeological site is one of the most fascinating excursions you can enjoy near the Capital.
A slow, immersive and story-rich journey, perfect for anyone who wants to discover Rome from a different perspective, following the same route once used by goods traveling to the imperial ports.
From the heart of Rome to the sea: 37 km along the “Blond Tiber”
The day begins at the Ponte Marconi pier, near the Basilica of Saint Paul.
From here, the boat sets off along the 37 km of river that separate Rome from the sea — a route that reveals:
- the lush nature along the Tiber’s banks
- hidden corners of the city
- places that tell centuries of history
- the original path of goods headed to the imperial harbors
A light breakfast is served on board, while a guide provides historical and naturalistic commentary throughout the navigation.
Arrival in Ostia Antica: a special entrance from the river
Just like in ancient times, arrival at the archaeological site takes place directly from the river, through a dedicated entrance reserved for the group.
After a short lunch break (packed lunch or cafeteria), the guided tour of the site begins.
Ostia Antica: a perfectly preserved Roman city
Founded as a military colony and later transformed into a major commercial hub, Ostia Antica is today one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in the world.
With an expert archaeological guide, visitors can explore:
- the Roman theatre
- the baths and public facilities
- domus and insulae
- beautifully preserved mosaics
- shops and commercial buildings
- the different phases of development and decline of the ancient city
A true journey back in time, offering a vivid picture of daily life in ancient Rome.
